A coherent surveillance and response approach is key to effectively implementing elimination programmes. Only if a urveillance system early detects signs of rising cases in vulnerable groups decisionmakers can intervene.
Numbers are, therefore, the basis for decision-making when it comes to elimination programmes for infectious diseases. But what is the current status of surveillance and response in Switzerland with respect to viral hepatitis? How can we enhance surveillance for HIV and viral hepatitis in Switzerland? What are possible methods for measuring the burden of disease for viral hepatitis?
At this year‘s Swiss Hepatitis Symposium, we will hear about cases of successful surveillance and response as well as a concept for Switzerland. From Germany, an analysis of the Robert Koch Institute for hepatitis B and C cases will be presented. Furthermore, we will discuss the importance of longitudinal monitoring of infectious diseases in a particularly vulnerable population group using the example of a unique cohort. Last but not least, the symposium allows us to take a look behind the scenes at what is currently going on in the field of artificial intelligence and its contribution to monitoring and surveillance.
